Its been long overdue as I wanted to express my views on Digitization of almost everything happening over a period of time in India and currently the time is ripe.
Digitization has reached in villages as well, people have started the concept of making things work in a fast pace & with max accessibility. Social Networks like Whats-app & Facebook are the most downloaded apps in India. It has made our lives easier in terms of being in touch with our dear ones, long lost friends or fellow classmates. In-fact these social networks are working more of us as an opportunity rather than a waste of time as constantly reminded by our elders. They say that it has torn the families apart and people no longer have family get-together and even if they do; they are busy in their mobiles for some reason. I am not ignoring the fact that there have been changes in the tendency that people have during these get-together but neither can I forget my past experience where some families hardly had good time each other even if they were fond of each-other. There were no mobiles but still family members occupied their rooms doing absolutely nothing as the one TV set they were sharing is not watched as per their likes. So what's the difference digitization has made in our life?
Let me tell you what I believe.
I believe in one Philosophy of Life...."Its not how much you criticize or follow, its what you learn from them or get the best out of it" Similarly why aren't we taking the best out of this mega change in our Life? Let's not curse digitization and understand how it can make our lives better for us & our families. BTW, by "making better for your family" I definitely do not mean that if your toddler cries or needs your attention you hand him the mobile instead of spending time with them. Smart phones are not pacifiers. Crying children need human interaction not mobile devices. Also, what will happen when they will unravel the real life as they grow and wouldn't find such a speedy object to console to fix their need or boredom. If this continues or grows, it will impede their ability of human interaction. This is where people are making digitization look bad.
I am no professional counselor for kids but I will make the best out of mobiles for my children. I will restrict the usage only until its making or attending calls. Young kids need real-life interaction with their parents, or how would parents understand their kid's likes & dislikes & their ability to understand real world problems because all what you have been exposing him is the virtual world. These kind of practices encourages unhealthy child-parent relationship.
There is lot more to cover on this never-ending topic but it will wait until my mind-speaks to share my thoughts to this digital world.
